Yesterday, in a 66-34 vote, the United States Senate confirmed Michael Regan as the new EPA Administrator. Regan spent four years as Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. As EPA Administrator, Regan will play a key role in the Biden Administration’s environmental policies.
Of particular interest, Regan will be in charge of handling issues under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). He will face the challenge of determining the EPA’s treatment of Small Refiner Exemptions (SREs), RVOs and other pending RFS issues.
Regan gained recognition in North Carolina for advancing environmental policies that directly affect low-income Carolina residents as well as minority populations. He is expected to face push back from the fossil fuel industry as he continues to advance the Biden Administration’s climate change agenda
